hi,

the most bizarre thing is happening. We re-booted our Sun box 2 days ago and since then nothing is working. the ususal bootup scripts fail to bring up all the oracle instances or the litener and even when logged in as oracle user and a manual attempt is made to start-up, we continually get this darned error.

The oracle user is part of the dba group, none of the init files have changed or the tnsanmes or listener.ora files either.

We are using Oracle 8.1.7 on solaris 5.8.

I am totoally lost and would appreciate some assitstance.

cheers...
