I am running Windows XP Prof. and Oracle8i on it. I have successfully installed Oracle8i and also accessed database using Scott/tiger.

But once i restart the system, although Oracle service is set to startup mode automatic, Oracle service is not automatically starting. Moreover, when i try to start it manually it failes and i have to goto SQLPLUS with /NOLOG and connect as internal and start it using STARTUP command.

But that is a lot of process, if i have to do everytime.

Can any one explain what is the problem and how do i solve it.

Thank you.

My be you have or local or internet connection.
In this case you maste make several editing in sqlnet.ora. Set next string as commentary by (#):

# sqlnet.authentication_services = (NTS)
