We are having 8i/Solaris and would like to evaluate if 9i is good or bad. could anybody please share the differences i.e.

1. Advantages of 9i over 8i.

2.Advantages of 8i over 9i.

Hi,

8i is the past, 9i is faster and has more features. Most people are running 9i these days without regret.

You have no choice but to upgrade, even if its just to keep up with technology; keep your resume up to date; and to ensure your environment is supportable.

Hi Frank,

But I need some background to convince my management why is 9i better than 8i. Is there anything anybody can share. Like : 9i has this--this things which is absent in 8i and hence 9i is better. I understand that each organisation is unique and hence its requirements but it would be really great and helpful if somebody can give general advantages of 9i over 8i or point me to site which has "Advantages of 9i over 8i"

yes it will
reduce the headache of dbas y automatic undo management
freelist contention by local managed tablespace.
more features r there like RAC and flash back query
u have to go thru new features of 9i in docs

Hi,

There are too many features to list them all on this forum (+- 400 for the DB alone), and you boss will most likely not understand them anyway.
