In my spfile, I have a line that says this:

*.dispatchers='(PROTOCOL=TCP) (SERVICE=dbXDB)'

My database is named db, NOT dbXDB - so what is the XDB appended for?

XDB=XML datbase created by DBCA in 9.2 and later. If you dont use XML database ,you can probably remove this.
