I'm upgrading an 8.1.7.4 database to 9i on HP-UX 11.11. I've upgraded one test databse using the Database Upgrade Assistant and it seemed to work fine. I'm thinking of doing another database using the manual method in ML DocID 159657.1 "Complete Manual Checklist for Manual Upgrades from 8.X/9.0.1 to Oracle 9i. Could anyone provide some comparison/preference between methods? It seems the DBUA is almost too easy as I didn't know what it was doing, as I would the manual method. Thanks.

Hi,

Most DBAs I know prefer to use the manual method. If you use the manual method you are in control and can fix unexpected problems yourself. Personally I would never dare to use the DBUA GUI on a large mission critical database. Maybe it is just personal choice...

Best regards.
