Hi,

A partner lost both: the SYS and the SYSTEM passwords!! He asked us if it was possible to "recover" or to find out again which are these passwords? Or maybe to delete them and attribute them new ones!?

They are using Oracle 9i!

Have anyone experienced such problems or have a solution? Thank you for your help!

Regards,

Patrick Tahiri.

PS: See [[NOTE:114384.1]] --[>] How to see this referenced note? Where get it?

Hi..

Remove the password file and Create new password file with new password.
This will be ur new password for SYS user.

Then..connect as SYS user, and change the password for SYSTEM user by using ALTER USER statement.

HTH,
Srinivas

If you are logged into the database server as user belonging to 'dba' [[unix]] or 'ora_dba' [[windows]] group , typically 'oracle' , then you should be able to do this

FTST@psfndbt1:/f3/exports>sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

SQL*Plus: Release 9.0.1.4.0 - Production on Wed Feb 11 09:15:00 2004

(c) Copyright 2001 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

Connected to:
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.0.1.4.0 - Production
With the Partitioning option
JServer Release 9.0.1.4.0 - Production

SQL> show user
USER is "SYS"

Once logged in, you can change the passwords.

Hi,
Can you explain with more details how to remove and create the password file? Like, where is the file? and how do I create a new one?
I am an intern developing Oracle 9i database but I do not have any previous experience with Oracle. Your help will be very appreciated. Thank you.
