An academic question again

Can someone tell me the difference between rebuidling an Index online and Coalescing an Index. From what I understood after reading the Oracle Docs both do the same the only difference that I found was that Rebuild online takes a few more steps and is more sophisticated

Thanks in advance

Rebuilding = rebuilds the index and needs 2x the space(old and new) to complete the operation.
Coalesce = reclaim space within the index by coalescing the leaf blocks and placing the empty leaf blocks into the free list. Simpler and doesnt need 2x space .
