Hi all,
I'm trying to install Oracle 9.0.2. I've formated my machine and while installing Oracle, during creation of Database I get ORA 12571 Error. I tried to modify TNSNames.ora and tried to cr-create the database thro Oracle Config. Assistance but No success.
Any Clue why is it happening?
Thanks in Advance.

by default or by the options you chose,
sqlnet.ora may have any of these entries

NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, HOSTNAME, ONAMES)
sqlnet.authentication_services=(NTS)

But, you may not be using the authentication serivces or the oracle names server.
so if you comment it off or remove those entries, you would be all set.

I found the Cause of the problem but still I can't rectify it. If i install Oracle Server while taking my Machine off the network it installs fine. But if i try to install it while it is in the network it gives problem. I asked our Network Admin and he told there is no problem of IP address. What do u think the problem could be.
At least i pinpoint the cause of it....
Thanks for your Help.

oracle will not do the hostname / domain resolution automatically.
if the host can be 'pinged' it is all set.
may be you can try using LOCALHOST instead of HOSTNAME.DOMAINNAME or IP in your listener.ora.
there are certain init.ora parameters like
mts_dispatchers = "(protocol=TCP)"
which required a proper tcp/ip connectivity.
