Hi All,

We have oracle 8.1.7 on Sunfire V1280. I have set the temp tablespace next extent to 128K as I heard that the MAX_IO is defaulted to 128K on SUN Solaris. Autoextend is off and we keep getting this error ORA-03232 - Unable to allocate 25 blocks to tablespace 3 which is TEMP tablespace in our case. I am hoping that someone out there may have some suggestions. Thank you.

for solaris MAX_IO_SIZE is 128 k (by default, unless u change).
I beleive , u have set the INITIAL=NEXT=128k   and
            HASH_MULTIBLOCK_IO_COUNT = 0 ( defualt in 8i..if it is changed..thats a different case..)
so just try to recreate the temp tablespace with larger extents.

Mahesh, Thanks for your response. HASH_MULTIBLOCK_IO_COUNT is currently set to 0. Since oracle recommends not to change it I did not. But I think I fixed this problem. I just altered the temp segment to have initial and next to be 1M each and that seems to have fixed the problem. Rigorous stress tests are going against this DB. But we are able to reach higher levels of stress than we did before without ever hitting this error so far. I seem to have done the same thing that you suggested. Thanks again.
