I had an Oracle instance with SID=DAT9 running on a Windows 2000 server and being used by people in my company. No one has used it recently, but tried today and the instance was not available.

I checked the services on the server, and the service for the instance is not listed. All datafiles are still present. SID is listed in tnsnames and listener.ora.

I have no idea what to do and need to recover from this immediately as I need this database for a Europe trip at the end of the week.

Can anyone help?

I did stop and restart the listener. The service is physically not in the machine's services list for me to attempt to stop and restart. It's just not there. I have SIDS DAT1 - DAT9 on the machine and the services for DAT1 - DAT7 are the only ones appearing in the services window since the last reboot.

I do have 9 instances on the machine, but never have more than 4 or 5 active at once.

svrmgrl is giving my TNS error messages since the database service physically does not seem to exist, as near as I can tell.

Thanks for the help. We manually went into the registry andadded the keys back in the machine's services list to start the instance and it came up when I rebooted.
