I have installed oracle 8.1.6.0.0 on pentium 4 with windows 2000 advanced server. Installation was smooth without any errors, I was able to connect also, but after i restart my machine oracle service is not starting, I tried starting manually using net start and svrmgrl ,but of no use, can anyone help me.

There have been problems with Pentium IV and Oracle 8i reported. It is strange how did you managed to install w/o any errors. Usually, you have to apply some JVM patches and fixes before you can install.

Anyway, check these Pentium IV fixes for Oracle 8i Here and Here . Apply the fixes and start all over again.

I have installed countless times oracle on a P4 you need a patch which installer the installer, its very odd that you managed to install oracle without any trouble. I would check your Oracle_home and do a svrmgrl> connect internal and see what you get. DO you have under services all the oracle services although not running?
