Hi there,
I'm using the flash copy feature of IBM to backup our production system. I'd like to know how can I suspend the database (v. 8.0.6) to get a consistent copy, I tried "alter system suspend" but it doesn't seem to work.

Thanks,
Ronald

Hi,
You would be better looking at using hot backups, by the sound of things. Mainly because it's a Oracle supported solution. See Oracle docs reguarding backup/restores

In Order to get a cold backup, you can go to the svrmgr30, login as sysdba and give the command shutdown.

After backups are complete, you will need to restart the database by "startup normal"
