Hi,

This is a basic questions about sizes of datafiles. I hava a datafile of 2G and need more room, is adding more datafile better than increasing the size of existing datafile? what are the general rules?

Thanks

Hi,
The only rule is not to create a file bigger than the O/S and version of Oracle will support. Don't forget your backup software max. file size too!

It's a good idea not to create big files as they are hard to admin. or move in the future (for load balancing). Oracle also tells us that large files perform less well too.

I don't your system, but may be if you are asking the question it's perhaps best to create a new datafile. If you are happy with 2G files then maybe your standard should a max. file size of 2G.
